My vacation was awesome and I can’t wait to show you some pics. I took over 400, so there is a lot of weeding out to do. I am now back state-side and have some actual knitting to show you! Don’t look so shocked, you know that at some point I was bound to get my act together and actually blog about knitting on my knitting blog.

First, the Never Ending Wrap. I’m sure that this would have an ending at some point if I knit on it more frequently than once a year. It’s nearly there, once I finish the main piece I will get to do two quick stockinette sleeves and call it a success.

And, due to boredom, I started some new socks. The pattern is Bellatrix and it’s super fun to knit. The socks fit a little slouchy as this yarn is kinda fat (Lorna’s Laces), but that’s okay. Most of my socks are a little fitted so it will be nice to have some variety. One is already done, just casting on for the second one today.

And I even got a little bit of spinning done on my Kromski. This is “Verdant” from Hello Yarn, a nice mohair/merino blend. I am trying to spin it a bit thicker than my usual two ply fingering weight.

Her colour choices are always so damn pretty, I can’t even stand it. I better keep spinning, too, I have a shit load of fibre stash to get through before Rhinebeck (no, it’s not too early to be thinking of Rhinebeck).

Ben’s baby blanket has been done for a bit and was gifted just before I left for vacation. Now that I have the time, I can finally post about it!

This was a gift for some friends who are having a baby boy almost any day now. The request was for a knitted blanket with the baby’s name embroidered on it as the mom-to-be had a similar blankey when she was younger. Knit out of Bernat Cotton Tots in a cable pattern that I made up as I went along, it was a pretty fun but simple knit. Excuse the pictures, they were taken last minute with a not so great camera in not so great light.

I am obviously not as good at sewing as I am at knitting. Oh well, it’s servicable and even kinda cute in a horribly disfigured sort of way.

In my defense, embroidering on knitted cotton yarn is not exactly the easiest thing I’ve had to do lately. The good part is that the parents loved it and I am done! I still have several balls left of the cotton tots, it looks like they will get a matching outfit at some point as well.

I am having a great trip so far and thought I would share some contraband pictures. Even though cell phones are supposed to be turned off, I had packed my digital camera in my luggage to save on weight for my carry on. So I had my cell on and was taking pictures with it. Good thing we didn’t crash! Anyways, it was worth it because I got some really neat shots.

This is as I was leaving Boston. You can see the downtown core here pretty well. It’s such a pretty city even if it is really flat.

When we got a little higher we had a nice view of the Atlantic Ocean.

The wing and some clouds.

Coming into Denver, which was my layover on my way to Calgary, Alberta. Denver looked so gorgeous. I really want to visit here one day, hopefully I will get to see the actual city and not just hang out in the airport for a couple hours. I have no pics of the connecting flight as we left after dark, I’ll try to get a nice pic on my way back home.

Right now I am driving through the Rocky Mountains on my way to Kamloops, British Columbia. I’ll post next time with knitting content, but you are going to see more vacation pics as well. It feels good to be back home!

I know, I am an unreliable jerk that doesn’t blog enough. I have been moving, and working, and hanging out with friends, and doing yoga, and taking taekwondo classes and all these things that aren’t really blogging (or knitting, for that matter). Things have been pretty hectic lately and I don’t know if there really is an end in sight anytime soon.

So what is going on, why I am posting about NOTHING, or rather, why am I posting about never having time to post? Well, I am going back to Canada on a vacation. Even though I was just in Toronto, this time I am going back to Western Canada, my true home. I get to leave on Wednesday and will not be back until the 23rd.

More weeks without a post! Well, except that I really think I can post while I am gone. No, I am not losing my mind. I will actually have more time and not less. I swear. There is lots I want to tell you about, too!

Let me apologize for the lack of posts, and the even more lame non-picture post about not posting. Bear with me while my life rearranges itself. I will post in the next few days with great photos while I am on vacation and KNITTING progress.

I finished the socks knit out of the Trekking Pro Natura and using the Lace Knee Highs pattern found in the Winter 2004 Interweave Knits. The pattern is okay, and the yarn is okay, so I guess that makes this project okay.

Meh.

So what’s wrong with the pattern? I think the lace could have been fine-tuned to be very pretty but it looks a little odd. It also shapes oddly. Of course, these could all be problems to do with the yarn I chose.

What’s wrong with the yarn? Well, it’s a wool/bamboo blend, which sounds great in theory, but I ended up not liking it so much. No stretch and it splits like a gym full of cheerleaders. Totally annoying, especially when I was knitting a lace pattern that has triple decreases with it. Maybe this yarn would be great for something not socks, though? The problem is that I don’t think I will ever bother purchasing it again. There are just too many yarns out there to really put that much effort into one that doesn’t “wow” you immediately.

In the end I will probably wear these, but I won’t enjoy wearing them and you can’t make me!
