FO - Lacey Socks
I finished the socks knit out of the Trekking Pro Natura and using the Lace Knee Highs pattern found in the Winter 2004 Interweave Knits. The pattern is okay, and the yarn is okay, so I guess that makes this project okay.
Meh.
So what’s wrong with the pattern? I think the lace could have been fine-tuned to be very pretty but it looks a little odd. It also shapes oddly. Of course, these could all be problems to do with the yarn I chose.
What’s wrong with the yarn? Well, it’s a wool/bamboo blend, which sounds great in theory, but I ended up not liking it so much. No stretch and it splits like a gym full of cheerleaders. Totally annoying, especially when I was knitting a lace pattern that has triple decreases with it. Maybe this yarn would be great for something not socks, though? The problem is that I don’t think I will ever bother purchasing it again. There are just too many yarns out there to really put that much effort into one that doesn’t “wow” you immediately.
In the end I will probably wear these, but I won’t enjoy wearing them and you can’t make me!

I love them, but I don’t have to wear them so I understand your meh-ness about them.
And I totally get what you say about there being better and more interesting yarns out there! I’d do well to pay attention to your advice…

They look good (I’m a sucker for anything green)but I hear on you splitty yarn- no fun. I don’t know why anyone bothers making a yarn that splits so easily- there are so many great ones on the market.

I could not agree more about that yarn!! I had SUCH high hopes for it too — I so wanted to love it — but the way it split made it so unpleasant (and I am a slow knitter anyway — so it’s not like it slowed me down any OR it’s not because I was knitting @ the speed of sound that it was splitting either!!) YUCK!
I do love your socks though — and you’re far better than I am! I got through a keychain sock and don’t think I will ever use the remainder of that stuff!
