How I Don’t Pay Attention

So apparently when a designer makes a knitting pattern and includes a diagram, it’s a good idea to actually pay attention to it. I was so happy to actually be knitting and making progress that I flippantly neglected to open my Knitting Nature book and actually read about what it was that I was knitting. I ended up with this:

Crazy Sweater

Looks pretty cool, right? And it is. Super cool. For a tube top. Unfortunately, if you are to actually look at the DIAGRAM:

Always follow a diagram...

You will notice that it is made of of 8 pentagons, attached together on each side. Well, almost. If you do more than look, and actually pay attention, there are armholes. Ummm, oops?

So, I had to rip out two of the pentagons and kinda make up the rest of the joins to end up with something that looks how it is supposed to. It was only a small defeat, and I am trying to look at it like a little present of “more knitting”, but I’ll admit I am a little bitter. Or a little unattentive. Wait, was was I talking about again?

I suppose you could also just have a really warm tube top? :-)

It’s times like these that taught me to cut creatively. To open up the armholes you could have cut one st in the pick up row and ripped out that one side, st by st. The resulting loops don’t run easily, but a quick bind off would finish them off - et voila - an open armhole without loosing all that knitting.
I hope you like your bubble sweater. :)

Ha-ha! I am the same way with the inattention. The sweater looks great and I really love that yarn!
