It Could Be A Saga
The “Road to Golden” sweater is lucky it’s alive. As mentioned in my last post, I am having a few issues with this beast. Of course, they are more frustrating because it’s supposed to be my Rhinebeck sweater.
The directions for the sleeves say that after the cuff you are to switch to “the dpn needles”. Well, just so you guys are aware, they meant SIZE 6 DPN NEEDLES. I kept using my size 7’s. I should have known better as I KNOW I have to change to the 7’s to keep the gauge even once I start the fair isle work at the body and sleeve join. So, I ripped out both sleeves back to the cuffs. See?
It’s okay though. The sleeves have been re-knit. And I am now only three rows on the body away from the join. Huzzah! Not that the body hasn’t had it’s share of crap issues. I kinda put one of the armpit gussets in the wrong spot. I also noticed that it was wrong pretty much right away, but kept knitting. WHY? Why did I do that? Last night I finally thought to myself, “Yeah, I should really get around to fixing that instead of just continuing to knit on it”. So I ripped out the gusset and the stitches where the gusset was supposed to be. Then I re-knit just those stitiches. It’s like there wasn’t even a problem! Amazing! Except that I didn’t get to bed until midnight last night.
I’m pretty tired.
I distracted myself from the sweater misery a bit with some spinning. Yes, I know Rhinbeck is in three sleeps. I have time to spin, don’t worry! Worry on Friday night, but for now enjoy some yarn:
This is some lincoln roving I got from the Spunky Eclectic club. It was fun! Because it’s such a scratchy long fibre, I thought a lopi-esque single would suit. I like it. Perhaps it will be some more thrummed mittens? I need something a touch softer for the cuff though, this came out to 164 yards. That might be a bit short for a full mitten set.
Because it was singles, I washed and weighted the hank to get it to behave. Surprisingly, it doesn’t have a lot of overtwist for being my first real singles. I am classy, so my weight for the hank was found in the pantry.
Mmmmm, mmmmm, yarn!
Next up for my wheel is the Circus Circus colourway from Hello Yarn. I just have to focus for a day or two on the sweater. Well, I might be able to do both. What are the chances that I wait to start the lucious BFL?
