OMG! For Reals?
I know that there are some people out there who think I may spend my money.. erm… unwisely. I agree that I tend to be a bit loose with the purse strings and even seem to not have purse strings at all. But there are just things in life that I feel I need to have, and Rhinebeck was the catalyst.
While at Rhinebeck I was assaulted by such glorious fibres that I could feel the want deep down in my bones. But something else happened while I was there. I tried a Journey Wheel. They are wonderous. So wonderous that I decided that I am going to own one. In June of 2008 to be exact.
I know, it’s amazing. A JOURNEY WHEEL. But I couldn’t help it! They take payments! They take paypal! They are helpful and so so so nice to deal with! Also, I happened to get the last slot for the June 2008 batch. It’s like it was meant to be.
And to prove I deserve the new wheel, here is some handspun made on my not-so-old wheel:
Hello Yarn’s “Circus Circus” BFL roving. This was 8 oz. but became a bit less as I tried different things. In the end it wanted to be plain ol’ chunky two ply. I ended up with 306 yards or so, and I like it a lot. A real lot. So much so that I think I will use it as a pet and keep it on my desk to make me happy. Ahhhh. Colours.
I really do love my Kromski, it makes great yarns and will be my at-home wheel. Besides, I’m not getting the new one until June and that gives me plenty of time to start digging in to my Rhinbeck purchases. Which, while still under my budget, are numerous. I will list them here for you but I will provide no links. I know, it’s sad, but way too much work for me to do. Besides, I can’t even remember the shops this stuff was purchased at. Hell, it’s amazing that I even remember what it is considering how high I was on fibre fumes all day. Mmmmm.
Be forewarned: I took no pics of animals and barely any of people. So I am just going to post what I bought and leave my whole social side up to your imagination. Did I do anything crazy? Was there eating? Chatting? Laughing? Did I accost an old man on one of the golf carts for a ride back to the bus at the end of the day? You will never know! BWAHAHAHHA!
On with the loot - dial up users, give up now.
I only bought one hank of yarn, Tongue River Farms to add to my already stashed hanks (I was getting low on the white):
The rest is all fibre. The pics were taken at night, so give the yellow-cast a break. I’ll put the good stuff first so if you get bored it’s okay.
Camel and Silk, also like buttah:

Cotton and Silk (which is, oddly, the softest stuff I have now):

Merino and Silk, two different blends in two colours each:

Silk Cocoons (I know, how cool, right? They smell bad though, in case you were wondering.)

Not bad, right? All in all, it was a good day full of fun people. I can’t wait until next year! (ohmygodistillcantbelieveigotajourneyhweeliamsoexcited!)
