Poopie Spoon
I wasn’t going to make any Christmas presents this year, but I was finagled into it. Behold, mittens. Or, rather, fingerless gloves with one of those flap thingies.
I am making it up as a go, kinda writing it down for the second mitt. I would almost add this as a pattern on my site except for there are about a hundred patterns for these and really, they are not that amazing. What is cool about them is the hand spun yarn. Loving knitting with this stuff, even if the thickness is, at best, inconsistent. Who cares, it’s pretty.
Speaking of patterns, the Aquaphobia Socks pattern is ready to go. I added it to Ravelry this afternoon and it’s already been added to a bunch of queues. Go, socks! Very exciting.
I promised to tell you about the spinning of this fibre called “gotland”. Apparently these sheep are found in new Zealand and Britain and are quite rare. The hair is long, lustrous, and slick. It nearly drafted itself right out of my hands several times. Gotland is also a highly directional fibre. You will fight with it unless you have the roving (or lock) in the right direction. It is probably the closest to spinning my Grandmothers hair as I will ever get. Is it gorgeous? YES.
I think it will go great with the big ass pile of Romney I spun up. In just over a week I spun up 1552 yards of Romney and 460 yards of Gotland. It’s becoming a sickness. A glorious, beautiful, fibre gifting sickness that I love with all of my heart.
I feel like 2000 yards should give me a sweater on size 3 needles with some small amounts of colourwork at the yoke and around the cuffs. Am I asking too much?
There is only one more thing I have for this entry. Heidi, Jon Don Thom… Poopie Spoon.

It’s all gorgeous but that silver romney just shines so bright in your picture! Where did you find such yummy fiber?

I can’t believe you did it. I so can not stop laughing.

Your handspun for your mitts is wonderful. I love the colorfulness of it. I think so too, as long as it’s handspun by me, I don’t care about the unevenness of the yarn. I’ve read about Gotland fiber, but have never used it. It looks great too. Love the Romney color, but hate the fiber, too scratchy for my taste. :o)

poopie? poopy? ummm…… who gives a shit. I MADE IT!
No goal is unattainable if you set your mind to it and put in a lot of hard work. There are some things I’d like to share about my journey.
There were times I questioned whether I’d ever make it. Losing sleep every night, seeking guidance from the legions of homeless that I normally ask directions of the nearest warm, dry, food-filled cocoon on my way to work.
The self doubt seemed endless.
I finally got my answer after stoopidly consulting the cotton candy heads at the old people storage building about the secrets of personal triumph over time. Quickly realizing they’re obviously losers in that arena, I just went back to playing Don’t Fear The Reaper out front on my boom box…shirtless. Why ruin a good relationship?
The point being that I’m way ahead of those homeless elderly “people” that get showered with money and cat food. I’m the success, not them, and that can’t be passed on like passed wind…although both elderly and the homless smell like it.
Some skirt wearing guy once said “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” He was obviously thinking small scale….I say, “You must be the change you wish to see in the blog.” I am poop.

Hey! I’m one of the folks who’ve added your Aquaphobia socks to my queue - and your spinning is lovely!
