The Fair And The Weird
So a couple people have asked me about the Topsfield Fair that I keep mentioning on my blog. I am not from around here so I may not be the best person to present the fair in the proper light, but as an avid fair go-er I will do my best.
Apparently it’s the oldest fair in America. That’s what I hear anyways. It’s been around since 1818, which is pretty damn old! They have the normal fair things like rides, petting zoo, carnies, stupid teenagers, and FOOD. Delicious, sweet, tasty, fattening fair food. To be honest, that is the main reason I go. But the second main reason I go (or something) is because of the knitting. They have quite a display of fibre-arts. Everything from knitting, crocheting, spinning, hell you name it. They even have drop spindle spinning competitions! Sheep are there, too. So are alpacas and other furry friends. Like angora rabbits! You can even buy a rabbit. Or just watch a lady with a rabbit on her lap spin yarn with rabbit fur!
Such a good time. Really, it’s no Rhinebeck. But it is something neat in and of it’s own thing. I have been submitting knitting to the fair for the past three years, this will be my fourth year submitting. It’s a fun-filled time and I need to diet now so I can eat lots of potatoes and fried dough and not feel too fat. Everyone go to the fair!
And yes, I DID finish the shawl on time. Yay! In fact, I finished it yesterday. Which means I was a whole three hours of knitting time (if I wouldn’t count working into the night, which I would have done) left over. Pfff. Not cutting it close at all.
I know these pics aren’t showing much, but I ran out of light and really didn’t like any of the other ones at all. That’s what I get for having a day job! It will have to wait until I get it back from the fair, which is in mid-October.
So why did I write weird in the title? Well, I collect these dollies, and some people find them weird. I obviously find them very adorable and super cute. Lately I have spent a bit of time knitting some hats for them out of sock yarns and some of my older spindle-spun yarns that didn’t produce an amount I could have worked with for something else. Here they are, the little cuties! They are called Blythe dolls, enjoy!

Wow. The shawl is incredible. I’d be such a better knitter if you hadn’t moved away!! Also, Blythe hats are adorable.
