What I Have Been Doing

I know it’s been a while. My parents were visiting, and then I had just a personal-life shit storm where I felt like I had no time for sleep let alone updating my blog. But I am here now with an update and apologies.

The Topsfield Fair is looming. My application for the submissions was given to them this weekend. That means I actually have to knit the items that I said I would show this year. True to my word, I have actually finished the socks. It’s a good thing, considering I have to hand these in on the 16th. That’s not cutting it too close, is it? Hell, I still had 6 days to finish knitting them! Hah!

It was late evening when I got around to taking these so the light is a little strange but they still came out okay. Yay for the socks being complete! These are the “Waves and Rivulets” pattern from Tongue River Farms, made with their sock yarn. It’s gorgeous sheepy stuff that blooms softly once washed. Go! Buy! Knit! You will not regret it.

I’ve also been working on the swallowtail shawl expansion. This has been kind of slow going, mostly because I feel like it will only take me a couple more hours to finish off so I didn’t feel as rushed as I was with the socks. But like the socks, the shawl is to be submitted to the fair on the 16th so I really need to get cracking.

What do you do when you have a project deadline? Why, you cast on for something COMPLETELY UNRELATED. Yes, this is normal knitter behaviour. No, I do not feel guilty. Here is the fine beginings of the Shippo Tail Scarf from Habu Textiles. It’s a super structural scarf made with a stainless steel wire wrapped in silk held together with linen paper. How fun is that? I just needed something funky and easy to knit because I am just a big case of stress right now.

I like the fall colours I chose and I really love the weird crunchy texture. It’s knitted art. And it’s my travel project while I am saving the shawl for at-home knitting. I promise I will not cast on another project until the shawl is done. Well, unless it’s the baby surprise jacket I have to knit. Or a larger size of the baby booties. Or maybe… well, nevermind. I promise nothing!

Those socks look great! I saw the scarf on Ravelry last night and it looks really neat. Is it hard on your hands? You’ll have to bring it to knit night.

Ok you mentioned Topsfield Fair a couple times. I thought it was just like big pumpkins and farm animals. Is there yarn there?? Knitted stuff??

Yes, tell us about the Fair. I try to go every year. I’ll look for your stuff!
