Where Does It Go?
I have no idea where all my time goes. I don’t feel that I work extraordinarily late hours, or have too many social engagements, or just waste time watching T.V., yet I still seem to not ever have enough time. Or rather, maybe I think things will take less time than they actually do.
Whatever the reason, I have not really seemed to made as much progress on my projects as I thought I would have since my last post.
The Road to Teal and Grey is progressing. I have done a little over one and a half pattern repeats, I think I might do four total instead of the three suggested before beginning the shaping. Longer is better than shorter, right?
I am really liking how the colours are blending together. It is especially neat that I randomly bought these yarns for my stash with thoughts of a fair isle project in the future. So to have them work so well with this pattern is really great for me. There is nothing like getting rid of some stash yarn to make future yarn purchases all the more justified!
I also got a bit of spinning done. It was sad looking at my neglected wheel, collecting dust in the corner. Here is some of the merino I dyed in the “Deep Diving” colourway.
This weekend we did indeed go the Topsfield Fair. My knitting placed first in both of my categories, which was fantastic! The Best In Show went to something that was knitted quite plainly, felted, and then needle felted on top of it. It was gorgeous, but really a bit frustrating to see something that was NOT knitted take the Best In Show for the knitting category. It’s kind of hard to compete against needle felting when it’s a lot more flexible a medium than real knitting. It’s a hard call because it was truly gorgeous. But it wasn’t gorgeous because of it’s knitting, it was gorgeous because of another fine fiber craft.
I was debating on saying something, but I really don’t want to be seen as causing a fuss. However, what about next year? I can only imagine winning the Best In Show will encourage the creator to submit more of this kind of work. It’s really not fair to others yet I do appreciate the work that goes into those pieces. What would you do?
In the end, I bought some yarn (which is, of course, what knitters do best!).
I also bought some in black and charcoal. Not only that, but I received the most wonderful fibre from the Spunky Eclectic club this month. I can’t wait to dive in, but I need more practice first. It’s a merino/tencel blend that feels just like butter.

Congratulations on winning two categories. It must be tough to feel like the top prize was awarded unfairly, but my guess is that saying something won’t help you much next year. I used to live in Topsfield and enjoyed the fair when my kids were growing up (though the whole town smelled like sausages and fried dough for 10 days). Hope you had some time to indulge yourself in the festivities! Your current fair isle is lovely as well.

Congrats on the 2 first places! Maybe next year they should be more specific on the guidelines for “knitting” entries.
I am planning on going to Topsfield next week where I can check out your items in person!

I love the colours you chose for Road to Golden- I don’t look good in anything that could be described as ‘golden’, so your choice is really inspiring!

I’m heading to the fair tomorrow–I’ll look for your winners. Congrats!
