Yahhhhhhhhhhn

Okay, so here it is. The yahhhns I mentioned in my last post. I know you’ve been having a hard time sleeping at night and just couldn’t wait until I made this entry. I’d hate to disappoint!

Handpun - Deep Diving

This pic is a lot more blue than in real life. It’s so hard to take decent pictures during the week. Please don’t stone me. The yarn itself came out to about 388 yards of a two ply fingering weight. It’s woolen spun, as was all the yarn I dyed from this roving. I have no idea what I will ever knit with any of this stuff. Ideas?

The second yarn was some specialty fibre! It was my first non-wool spin on my wheel (I’ve drop spindle-spun fancy stuff though) and tended to get away from me in spots. A nice batt, which was also a first for me, made out of merino, angelina, baby angora and silk. I tried to spin from the fold, I have no idea if it was successful. The singles were all sorts of lumpy, kinda thick and thin messy. The whole time I was spinning I felt like I was just ruining the fibre and kept telling myself, “I am just learning, it’s okay!”. At the end I didn’t know what to do with it. The batt was small, the singles were messy, and I was more than a little sad about the whole experience.

So I thought I might as well try and ply it with some thread and see what happens, as I had never done that before. Well, it came out so much better than I had expected. Really. It’s actually usable! There is a spot or two (the worst is glaringly obvious in the photo, oops!) where I should have plied it a bit better. Meh. I’m just learning!

Handspun - Fluff!

It’s about 72 yards and feels like a CLOUD. A little puffy cloud. I could make a lacy winter hat out of it, or I could just keep it on my desk and pet it. Mmmmm… fluff….

As for knitting, we may have a problem with the Road to Golden. A big one. It’s okay, I have time. What is it, like a week to Rhinebeck? It’s fine, really. I’m going to go and freak out about it work on it some more now. Wish me luck. And give me suggestions on what the hell I can knit with all of this handspun!

WHOA! I made this whole entry, posted it, and then realized I didn’t show you the scarf! Everyone needs to make one of these, it’s an awesome pattern and was a quicker knit as well.

I really need a model for my knits, sometimes the tables and floors just don’t cut it!
