Crochet Christmas trees

These cute Christmas trees are made from the same pattern but varied in different sizes. We are way back when my site was called Retvrang.dk and they were probably crocheted around 2010 – but they are still going strong and I am still very happy with mine. They can be varied in decoration and can be put together as pictured here, but they also work well on their own. If you’re curious to see more, stop by and find the recipe and instructions here. They can be decorated in different ways – with buttons, stars, string, glitter or whatever you have in your stash.

You’ll need: For the big tree – 1 ball of yarn 50 grams (crochet hook size 3), for the small tree 1/2 ball of yarn (crochet hook size 3). I used cotton yarn for the white tree and wool yarn for the other 2 – so it’s something you can make if you have a ball or 2 of yarn to spare.

Recipe for crochet Christmas trees

Basic recipe

To get started with your crochet Christmas trees, follow this simple pattern:

1. body: Start by making a magic ring and crochet 6 double crochets into the ring. Tighten the ring.
2. Extension: Work 2 double crochets in each stitch around the ring so you have 12 double crochets. Continue expanding by working 1 double crochet in the first stitch, 2 double crochets in the next stitch and repeat around the ring.
3. Height: When your Christmas tree is the desired width, continue working in the round without expanding to achieve the height. You can adjust the height to your preference.
4. Finishing: When the tree is the desired height, make a round of decreases by working 2 double crochets together around the ring. Fill the tree with stuffing and fasten off.

Mounted on a stick and a base – so it can decorate a windowsill or similar.

Variations and customizations in 3 sizes

You can customize your crochet Christmas trees by changing the size. Here are patterns for 3 different sizes:

Small Christmas tree: Follow the basic pattern, but stop the extension earlier and crochet fewer rounds to achieve a lower height.
Medium Christmas tree: Follow the basic pattern and crochet more rounds to create a taller tree.
Large Christmas tree: Expand more rounds and crochet even more rounds in height to create a larger tree.
