Eiks sweater – a knitted kids sweater for baby and child
40,00 kr.
Eiks sweater – a sweater for baby and child – is knitted in the soft “Mayflower London merino” – needles 3,5 and 4. It can also be knitted in other yarns that correspond to the gauge / needle 4. It is knitted from the top down – starting with the ribbed edge at the neck.
German short rows are knitted at the neck to make the sweater higher at the back. There is very little assembly on the sweater. There are raglan increases on the yoke and the sweater has pattern knitting on the body under the sleeves.
You can choose to knit the sleeves in the round on double pointed needles – or if you’re familiar with the magic loop technique, you can use that too.
The yarn has a slightly elastic effect and makes it comfortable to pull the sweater over your head. The sleeves and ribbed hem are finished with Italian bind-off.
The sweater is available in sizes 0-4 years.

Recipe for knitted children’s sweater in wool yarn
Now that you’ve gathered your materials, it’s time to start working on the pattern for your knitted sweater in wool yarn for baby and child. Follow the step-by-step instructions below to create a beautiful and warm sweater:
1. Cast on stitches
Start by casting on the number of stitches needed for the size of your sweater. For a size 0-4 years this may vary, so follow the pattern carefully.
2. Knit ribs
Knit ribbing at the bottom of the sweater to give an elastic edge that holds its shape. This can be 1×1 rib (one knit, one purl) or 2×2 rib (two knit, two purl), depending on your preference.
3. Knit the body
When the ribbing is finished, you can start knitting the body of the sweater. This is done in stockinette stitch (all knits on knit needles and all purls on purl needles). Continue until the body reaches the desired length.
4. Part for sleeves
When the body is knitted to the desired length, divide the work into sleeves. This is done by knitting back and forth instead of round and round. Follow the pattern to ensure correct placement of sleeves.
5. Knit the sleeves
Knit the sleeves in the same way as the body, with ribbing at the beginning and stockinette for the rest. Knit until the sleeves reach the desired length.
6. Finishing and sewing
Once both the body and sleeves are finished, it’s time to sew the pieces together. Use a mattress stitch for an invisible seam and a professional finish. Make sure to weave in the ends so they don’t come loose.
Tips to make your knitted kids sweater unique
To add a personal touch to your knitted wool sweater, consider the following tips:
- Colors and patterns: Experiment with different colors and patterns to create a unique sweater.
- Decorations: Add small decorations such as buttons, embroidery or appliqués to give the sweater a fun and individual look.
- Resize: Customize the pattern to fit your child perfectly by adjusting the stitch count and length.
Caring for your knitted wool children’s sweater
To ensure your knitted wool sweater stays beautiful and functional for a long time, it’s important to care for it properly:
- Hand wash: Wash the sweater in cold water with a mild wool soap. Avoid twisting or stretching as this can ruin the shape.
- Dry flat: Dry the sweater flat on a towel to maintain its shape. Avoid hanging it up as this can cause it to stretch.
