Knitted felted heart, pattern
$3.62
The heart is knitted back and forth and sewn together at the center back with a stitch.
The heart is knitted in wool yarn – here Drops “Alaska” suitable for needle size 4 mm approx. It should be a slightly thick wool yarn (or you knit with several strands). You can easily use leftover yarn for this project – but of course it’s important that it’s a wool yarn that can felt.
These hearts are attached with a leather cord for a slightly rustic look. They can also be decorated with small beads or anything else – it’s your ingenuity that counts here. The hearts can be hung on the Christmas tree or decorated elsewhere. If it’s made in colors other than Christmas colors, it can be used all year round. I sometimes use the heart if I’m wrapping a gift – I tie a heart to the ribbon at the bow.
The hearts are felted in the washing machine together with e.g. a pair of jeans. The felting is done at 40 degrees lukewarm water, soap and movement does the rest. If you’re not satisfied with the felting the first time, simply repeat the process. The more times you felt, the denser the felting will be.
The hearts are filled with pillow filling during sewing / before felting.
Description
Below is a GENERAL text about knitting and felting. To get the exact description of the pattern, you can find more information in the product description above.
Are you ready to fall in love with a felted heart?
Picture this: You’re sitting at home in your favorite chair, your knitting needles are softly clinking, and out of the blue – PUF – you’ve created a felted heart. Not just any heart, no no. A knitted, gently felted, soft as the cloud over your childhood summer cows-heaven heart.
This is not just a little piece of needlework. It’s a declaration of love. A hug in the form of wool. And honestly, who wouldn’t want that?
Welcome to the world of felted hearts. It almost sounds like a romantic movie, but it’s actually just really cozy needlework.
Love can’t be bought (but yarn can!)
We know the feeling. You want to give a gift that means something. Not just another coffee cup with “the world’s best whatever” on it. You’re looking for something that says: “I’ve spent time on this. I’ve thought about you. And yes, I’ve struggled a bit with felting and stubborn wool threads.”
But where do you start? Pinterest? (danger of overwhelm). Youtube? (danger of getting lost in a spiral of cat videos). Your grandma’s old recipe book? (danger of dust allergies and real 70s yarn).
And then there’s the question of technique. Should it be knitted first? Does it have to be felted in the washing machine? Do you have to be a member of a secret knitting order to access the magic?
We’ve also sat and stared at a fluffy ball of wool
Don’t worry. We’ve also tried staring at a ball of wool and thinking “how does this become a heart and not just… something that looks like a wet hamster’s last will and testament?”
But you know what? Once you crack the code – and you will – it becomes a kind of meditation. Knit, felt, love. Repeat.
And even better? You don’t have to be a knitting ninja. A mere mortal with yarn and determination can make a felted heart that will melt even your grumpy uncle’s granite heart.
A knitted felted heart (yes, it’s magic)
A knitted felted heart is the perfect combination of creativity and love. It starts with a simple piece of knitting – and then… felt magic. Suddenly you have something that looks like a mix of adventure and coziness, ready to give away (or keep for yourself, because yes – it’s really cute).
The best part? You can make them in all sorts of colors, sizes and styles. Classic red for Valentine’s Day? Check it out. Pastel for the christening? Yep. A whole garland for Christmas? Oh yes. You’re only limited by your imagination (and maybe a little by your yarn stash).
Why felted hearts are the new black
1. They are personal
A felted heart is not something you just pick up at the store. It is a handmade, loving object. An “I was thinking of you” statement in wool.
2. They are sustainable
You use natural materials and create something that lasts a long time – both in form and meaning. No plastic. Just love.
3. They are quite addictive
Once you’ve made one felted heart… you’ll want to make more. Suddenly you have a whole collection. An army of love-ready hearts, ready to conquer the world.
Recipe? Yes please! (just not right here)
We want to keep the suspense going. You won’t get the actual pattern here (hey, we have to keep a little mystery!), but there are plenty of places where you can find an easy and neat pattern. Both for beginners and those with a little more experience in knitting intricacies.
The great thing about a pattern is that it gives you a starting point – and then you can improvise from there. Add beads, embroidery or maybe a little secret message inside the heart. The only limit is your imagination.
Use your felted heart as a…
-
Gift for a friend who’s had a bad day.
-
Christmas decorations that scream “homemade charm”.
-
Christening gift, naming ceremony decoration or wedding table decoration.
-
Love token for your cat. (Cats love felt. It’s science.)
-
Keychain (Who doesn’t want a heart in their pocket?)
But is it difficult?
Nope. It requires a little patience, some warm hands and maybe a cup of tea (or three). But otherwise? Just dive right in. Find a pattern, pick your favorite yarn and get started.
And remember: Even if the first heart doesn’t turn out exactly like in your dreams – it’s still made with love. And that counts.
Felt heart? Absolutely amazing!
So yes, a knitted felted heart is a bit of a superhero in disguise. It’s small but powerful. Soft but expressive. And once you start, you can’t stop.
Whether you give it away or store it yourself – it will bring warmth. Not just physically (because wool, duh), but also in your heart.
So what are you waiting for? Grab your needle, grab some yarn and make your first (of many) felted heart. It’s more fun than Netflix. It’s cheaper than therapy. And honestly – it’s kind of magical.
