Knitted hoodie, pattern
$5.79
The hooded sweater is knitted from the neck down. It has raglan sleeves. First the yoke is worked – then the stitches for the sleeves rest on a stitch holder while the body is finished – ending with a ribbed edge with slits at the sides – Italian bind-off. Then the sleeves are worked from the shoulder down – finishing with a rib edge and Italian bind off (you can also bind off plain if you prefer). The neck is raised and worked with the German short rows method. Finally, stitches are picked up at the neck edge and the hood is knitted on. An i-cord is worked around the neck and the edge of the hood. It can be omitted – but it gives a fun finish and decorates the hood. The I-cord is knitted in a contrasting color, but you can also choose to knit in the same color as the sweater.
The yarn is “Easy Care” from Mayflower and there is a strand of “Super Kid Silk” also from Mayflower. The work is worked with 4 mm circular needles and 3.5 mm (for ribbing). It can be knitted in sizes small – 3XL
Size: S (M) L (XL) 2XL (3XL) Measure your chest measurement and choose your size from there. The sweater should have some room to move (approx. 15-20 cm) and not be too tight.
Yarn consumption 8 (8) 9 (9) 9 (9) 9 (10) balls of Easy Care Merino from Mayflower. Yardage 185 meters per 50 grams.
Also 1 skein of Easy Care Merino contrasting color for the edges of the hood/neck.
Linen – 8 (8) 9 (9) 9 (10) balls of ‘super Kid Silk’ – from Mayflower.
Running length 195 meters per 50 grams.
Waist/chest measurement 112 (118) 123 (130) 132 (137) cm
Full length – center back – from neck down: 61 (63) 65 (68) 71 (75) – buy some extra yarn if you want your hoodie longer. You can also knit it shorter – if you wish. Measure yourself and decide the length.
Needles: 3.5 mm and 4 mm circular needles – 40 and 80 cm.
If you are using double-pointed needles for the sleeves, you will also need these – otherwise you can use the magic-loop technique with circular needles.
Knitting tension: 20 stitches in stockinette stitch on 4 mm needles = 10 cm in width.
If the gauge doesn’t fit, change to a larger or smaller needle and measure again – gauge means you are knitting the right size with the right measurements and is important for the finished piece.
Finishing the rib edges: This is done with Italian bindings – find a video on YouTube – there are many nice ones. The closure gives a really nice finish. You can also finish in other ways – I just think the finish is beautiful.

There’s something special about a knitted hoodie. It combines comfort, warmth and personal style in a way that few other garments do. Whether you’re new to knitting or a seasoned enthusiast, there’s good reason to take on a knitted hoodie as your next project.
A knitted hoodie is perfect for everyday wear, cozy days at home or as a layer under a winter jacket. It’s not just a piece of clothing – it’s a handmade statement.
Why choose a knitted hoodie?
There are plenty of ready-made garments available in stores, but nothing beats the feeling of a homemade knitted hoodie. When you knit your own hoodie, you can customize it according to your style, preferences and fit.
Another great thing about a knitted hoodie is that you can choose from a wide range of colors, yarns and patterns. That way you can get exactly the look and comfort you want.
Create your own unique style
When making your own knitted hoodie, you can experiment with different details: maybe a drawstring hood, front pockets or ribbed edges in contrasting colors. Your hoodie will be unique – and it shows.
Knitwear in women’s size
If you’re looking for a knitted hoodie in women’s size, it’s a good idea to find a pattern that takes female proportions into account. Many patterns are adapted specifically for women’s sizes, which means you’ll get a better fit and a better looking result. It’s not just about measurements – it’s about making sure the hoodie feels right, both in cut and look.
How to choose the right recipe
A good pattern is essential when knitting a hoodie. The pattern will guide you step by step to avoid frustration and give you a finished product you can be proud of. It’s important that the pattern is suitable for your level – if you’re a beginner, choose a simple model. If you’ve been knitting for years, go for a more advanced knitted hoodie.

Tips for customization
When you have a good pattern in hand, creating your own knitted hoodie becomes a breeze.
Materials for your knitted hoodie
The choice of yarn plays a big role in the result. A knitted hoodie can be made in cotton, wool, alpaca or blended yarn – depending on the season and the desired comfort.
Choose the right yarn
For a winter-friendly knitted hoodie, you can choose a heavy wool blend. It provides both warmth and structure. For spring and summer, a light cotton blend can be the perfect choice. Remember to check the pattern – it usually recommends yarn and needle size.
Knitted hoodie as a gift
A knitted hoodie is a personalized gift that is sure to be appreciated. Especially when knitted in women’s sizes, you can create a beautiful and functional gift for a mother, sister or friend. It’s not just the hoodie itself that’s special – it’s also the thought and time behind it.
Make it personal
If you want to make the gift even more personal, you can add small details: embroidered initials, favorite colors or a small pocket with a button. The possibilities are endless, and a homemade knitted hoodie is something that doesn’t just stay tucked away in the closet.
Tips to get you started
Knitting a hoodie can seem like a big project, but with the right pattern and a little patience, you’ll quickly get into the swing of things.
Make a swatch
Always start with a swatch. It may not be the most exciting part, but it ensures that your knitted hoodie is the right size and fit. Yarn and needle size can greatly affect the knitting gauge.
Use markers and notes
When working with a pattern for a knitted hoodie, it’s a good idea to use stitch markers and make notes along the way. This makes it easier to follow the pattern and keep track of increases and decreases.
Inspiration for your next knitted hoodie
There are countless recipes and variations, so it’s just a matter of finding the model that best suits your style and needs.
Popular trends right now
Currently, oversized models, textured knitted patterns and natural colors are very popular. You can also consider a cropped version of a knitted hoodie, which goes perfectly with high-waisted pants or skirts.
Make it a joint project
If you have friends or family who also knit, you can make it a joint project. Knit your own version of a knitted hoodie and share experiences and tips along the way. It makes it more fun and motivating to get to the finish line.
Knitted hoodie – more than just clothes
A knitted hoodie is not just a garment. It’s a project you put time, love and creativity into. Whether you’re knitting for yourself or someone else, the result will be something special.
When you choose a good pattern and work from your desired women’s size, you’re not just creating a hoodie – you’re creating a personal expression and a garment that will last for many years. And perhaps most importantly, you get the satisfaction of having made something from scratch.
