Knitted ladies poncho – Sandstorm

“Sandstorm” – a well-fitting poncho with sleeves – pattern.

The poncho was named “Sandstorm” after a trip to the North Sea. The wind had died down and the sand had taken on a lovely texture – and that’s when I thought “it must be knittable”.

In addition, I had an almost threadbare poncho. The poncho was so ugly that it was impossible to wear….but the fit is absolutely perfect and suits me well. So “Sandstorm” is knitted after my old poncho in an attempt to recreate the shape of the model. And all in all, I think I’ve actually succeeded really well – it has a great fit. It’s knitted in Drops Puna – but can definitely be knitted in other yarns too. The poncho is “one size”.

“Surely it can be knitted” – structure in sand

You’ll need:

  • 12 balls of Drops “Puna” (here sand colored). It is important that your gauge is correct, because there is only just enough yarn. You could order an extra skein of sand colored if you are in doubt …. and if you get too much, knit a cute little hat from the rest)
  • 3 skeins of Drops “Puna” (here black)

Yarn and sticks:

Pin no. 4.

3.5 mm needle for the rib edges

Running length – 50 grams = 110 meters.

Gauge – 21 stitches = 10 cm

The yarn is Oeko-Tex certified and free from harmful substances. May “fluff” (lint on clothes) a little at first, until it has been washed a few times.

Size: The poncho is one size – but if you want a longer/shorter/smaller version, you’ll have to measure and try to calculate your own size. The poncho fits most adult women. I am 174 cm tall and fairly standard. Total length from neck down is about 72 cm. Wingspan is about 138 cm – (depending on how long you make the ribs on the sleeves).
