Poncho – domino squares

This beautiful, colorful poncho is made from domino squares. The squares are knitted together along the way and consist of garter stitch/ garter ridges.

The poncho is made from kauni yarn, which changes color on its own. Kauni yarn is available in many color variations. The yarn comes in large skeins with a long running length. The running length may vary slightly, but 2-3 large skeins are enough.

Once the domino squares have been worked on the front and back, knit it together with garter stitch on the shoulders and a garter stitch edge at the neck. You can choose to decorate with a crochet bow – or leave it as it is. Knit 21 squares on both front and back – a total of 42 squares.
This can be increased if you want the poncho bigger. This poncho fits size (M) L. You can make the poncho bigger/longer by adding more squares at the bottom if you wish.

The poncho is worked from the bottom up

For your knitted poncho you will need:

2-3 skeins of kauni yarn (here color EQ is used)

Knitting needles no. 3.5

You need to be familiar with knitting and it’s a good idea to familiarize yourself with how to knit domino knitting. It’s not that complicated and there are many great tutorial videos on YouTube.

I have used 2 skeins of Kauni yarn of 150 grams – but I am aware that some of my customers have used a little more than 2. It depends on the knitting tension. I therefore recommend that you buy 3 skeins of yarn, so you are sure that you have enough yarn. It would be a shame to be left with an unfinished poncho and too little yarn.
