Lene’s shawl
Lene’s shawl is a well-fitting shawl knitted with thin Faroese wool yarn – Navia Uno. Only 3 balls of yarn are used for the shawl. A really nice wool yarn.
I’ve always been a bit challenged by a shawl “slipping off the shoulders” – but this construction makes it easier to stay on the shoulders. It doesn’t just go “straight across” at the neck like many shawls, but is shaped so that there is “room for the neck”.
The shawl is knitted in garter stitch with a lace pattern. It is knitted with thin yarn on needle size 5.5, which gives it a light and airy look. The shawl has a lace pattern, which is expressed by the fact that it looks “horizontal” across the back and “vertical” down the front. So there is play and change in the expression. At the same time, there is a center back piece that is knitted in garter stitch without a lace pattern. This center section becomes narrower and narrower as you reach the front/up towards the neck.
The shawl is worked from the widest part at the bottom. Using decreases at the sides and around the center piece, the shawl is worked up towards the neck. The neck is finally shaped by knitting together/decreasing and this shapes the neck and front – and makes the shawl extra well-fitting.
The pattern requires that you can knit according to charts. The lace pattern is simple, but it also requires you to count so that the holes are in the right places. This can also be seen in the diagrams.
Finally, crochet a “mousetack edge” on the top of the shawl and decorate with fringes around the shawl.
Yarn consumption: 3 balls of “Navia Uno”. Faroese wool yarn. The yarn runs 350 m/50g.
Size: One Size.
Needles: long circular needle 5.5 mm
