It has taken me a long time to find a yarn that is both suitable for spring/summer, keeps its shape well after washing, is soft and can be washed many times (and still looks nice).

This summer tee is knitted in the softest bamboo yarn – and can also be knitted in cotton yarn if you have other preferences for yarn. Rainbow bamboo is spun from 60% viscose fibers from bamboo and 40% cotton fibers. The bamboo fibers make the blouse stay soft and nice.

It is knitted from the top down with raglan increases. There are elevations in the neck with the help of reversible stitches – “german short rows”. When the yoke is knitted, put the sleeve stitches to rest on a stitch holder/string and the body is knitted straight down.

Edges at the neck, sleeves and waist consist of a small rolled hem and a narrow ribbed edge, which gives the finish a feminine look.

The raglan increases are made with a yo-up before and after the raglan stitches, so that a lace pattern appears – a feminine detail. The pattern is described with two different raglan increases – one with holes and one without holes – a different expression with a very small change.

The sleeves can be varied in pattern and structure – I give different suggestions in the pattern. You can also play with your own expression. The pictures show the sleeves with double beading and stripe pattern with knit and purl stitches. But maybe you have other ideas yourself? Could you imagine a wave pattern? A lace pattern? Let your imagination flourish.

Since the summer tee is knitted from the top down, it can be extended until it has the length you want. If you knit longer, be aware of any additional use in yarn.

Sizes: S – M – L – XL – 2XL – 3XL. The summer tee is designed so that there should be a room for movement of approx. 10-12 cm so that it does not sit too tightly. Measure your chest width (bust circumference) so that you get the size that you prefer.

Yarn: Rainbow bamboo from Hobbii.

NOTE – the yarn is in 100 grams per ball of yarn and is knitted on 3.5 mm needles. The net runs 250 meters per 100 grams. The yarn shrinks a LITTLE bit in the wash. I wash my work on the wool program in the washing machine – even if it is cotton – and let it dry flat.

Yarn Consumption: 400 (400) 400 (400) 500 (500) grams. In some of the sizes, there will be yarn left over, as the yarn is 100 grams per skein – don’t be sad, as the yarn is also suitable for other purposes – e.g. crocheted potholders or the like.

Needles: Circular needles – 3.5 mm for the body, 3.0 mm for ribbed edges and rolled edges (40 and 80 cm).

Knitting tension: 24 stitches in width (stockinette stitch) = 10 cm. in width – needles size 3.5 mm

Remember to adhere to the gauge so that your work gets the right measurements. If the gauge doesn’t fit, try with thicker or thinner needles.

Bust circumference: 90 (96) 108 (114) 130 (138) cm

Length (center back from neck to waist): 55 (57) 59 (61) 63 (65) cm

Knitted summer tee: Your new best friend in the summer wardrobe

Ah, summer! The sun is shining, the flowers are blooming, and it’s time to bring out the light and airy outfits. What could be better than a knitted summer tee that not only looks amazing but is also made with love? In this article, we’ll dive into why a knitted summer tee is a must-have for all creative souls out there. Whether you’re new to the world of knitting or an experienced knitter, there’s something for you here!

What is a knitted summer tee?

A knitted summer tee is not just a regular t-shirt. It’s made from soft, lightweight materials, making it perfect for hot days. Many people choose to knit their own tee in bamboo yarn, which is both sustainable and breathable. Your choice of yarn can really make a difference to both the comfort and appearance of your finished product.

Benefits of knitting your own summer tee

Unique style

When you knit your own knitted summer tee, you get the opportunity to choose colors, patterns and designs that fit your personal style perfectly. You can even add small details like buttons or pockets to give your tee a personal touch. No more boring, plain t-shirts from the supermarket!

Sustainability

At a time when sustainability is more important than ever, it makes sense to choose materials like bamboo yarn. This yarn is not only soft and lightweight, but it is also a more environmentally friendly option. By knitting your own knitted summer tee, you can reduce your CO2 footprint and look good at the same time. Win-win!

A perfect gift

A knitted summer tee is also a great gift idea! Imagine giving a handmade tee to a friend who loves needlework. It shows that you have put time and thought into the gift, and who wouldn’t appreciate that?

How do you choose the right yarn?

When choosing your yarn for the knitted summer tee, bamboo yarn is an excellent choice. Not only is it soft and comfortable to wear, but it also has a natural sheen that gives your finished product a luxurious look. In addition, bamboo yarn is temperature-regulating, which means that it keeps you cool on hot days.

But hey, if bamboo yarn isn’t your cup of tea, you can also consider other lightweight yarn options like cotton or linen. Both materials have their own advantages and can give your knitted summer tee a unique look.

Tips for knitting your summer tee

Start with a test

It can be tempting to throw yourself straight into your project, but we recommend doing a small test knit first. This will help you see how the yarn behaves and whether you are satisfied with the knitting tension. No one wants a tee that’s one size too big or small, right?

Take breaks

Knitting should be fun! If you start to feel frustrated, take a break. Go for a walk, make a cup of tea, or watch an episode of your favorite series. When you come back to your project, you will have renewed energy and motivation.

Share your progress with friends, family, or online communities. It’s always fun to get feedback and support from others who share your passion for needlework. Take pictures of your knitted summer tee along the way and be proud of what you create!
