Winter hat and neck warmer for children – YES the hat
$4.34
The hat and the idea came about when the oldest grandchild had a “NO-period”………. and then it was that Dad said: “Can’t you knit him a YES hat?” Yes – of course! And it could just as well be combined with a set for winter. So that’s why this set with top hat and neck warmer, on which it is embroidered “YES” with stitches. You can just omit the embroidery – the set is cute and usable with or without “YES”. It is warm on a cold winter’s day – and if they need it at home, they can always just get out the YES hat. Cute pompom decorates on top.
The set is knitted in the soft Drops merino, extra fine and is machine washable (see information on the label). The set is available in sizes 2-12 years – or head measurements 48-56 cm. Measure your child around the head – there can be a big difference and you can’t always go by age.
The neck warmer is knitted with a turnaround and fits well under the jacket. This means good warmth on the neck. It goes a little bit out on the shoulder – just enough so that the neck warmer does not crawl up the neck.
I’m a fan of neck warmers – they sit well on the neck – warm – and you avoid scarves that can get in the way when the kids are playing.

If you do not want to knit on double pointed needles, the magic loop technique can be used on circular needles – however, this requires a longer circular needle.
Knitting tension: 22 stitches in stockinette stitch in width measures 10 cm, needles 3.5 mm. If the gauge doesn’t fit, try with larger or smaller needles. To get the correct measurement at work, it is important that the gauge is correct. Needles 3 mm for ribs are chosen to give the ribs a dense look and a good firmness.

Winter hat and neck warmer for children for winter
When winter approaches and the cold really starts to bite, it’s important to dress children well. A good hat and neck warmer are not only practical, but also a cozy way to keep warm. In this article, we’ll dive into why hat and neck warmers are an obvious choice for children, and how you can find a good recipe if you want to make them yourself.
Why choose a hat and neck warmer
A hat and neck warmer are a regular part of the winter wardrobe for many children. Where a regular hat only covers the head, a neck warmer keeps the neck and neck warm without becoming too violent like a scarf. The combination is especially good for active children who play outdoors in all kinds of weather.
One of the big advantages of choosing a hat and neck warmer over other solutions is that they fit snugly. Many children find scarves to be annoying, while a neck warmer stays in place and doesn’t tighten. Together with a warm hat, it provides optimal protection against wind and cold.
Materials and comfort
When choosing materials for a hat and neck warmer for children, you should think about both warmth and comfort. Wool is a popular choice because it warms well, even if it gets a little damp. At the same time, it is important that it does not scratch. Therefore, many people choose merino wool or blended yarn, which is softer against the skin.
Cotton can also be an option, especially for the slightly milder winter days. It is breathable and easy to wash. For the very young children, it is an advantage to choose a yarn that has been tested and approved for children’s clothing.

Hat and neck warmer in everyday life
Perfect for kindergarten and school
Children spend many hours outdoors in institutions and school. Here, it is important that the clothes are both practical and comfortable. A hat and neck warmer are easy for the child to put on and take off and do not take up much space in the bag. This makes them ideal for everyday use.
In addition, you avoid loose scarves that can wrap around or fall off. A neck warmer fits snugly to the neck and protects against draughts without interfering with play.
Good gift ideas
A set of hat and neck warmers is also an obvious gift idea. It can be for a birthday, Christmas or just as a practical and personal surprise during the winter months. If you make the set yourself, you can add your child’s favourite colours or small details such as name tags, pompoms or embroidery.
Maintenance Tips
Both the hat and neck warmers are exposed to wind, snow and dirt. It is therefore important that they are easy to wash. If you choose wool, remember to follow the washing instructions carefully – preferably hand wash or wool program. If you have used cotton or acrylic yarn, it can often be machine washed.
Feel free to dry the set flat so that it keeps its shape. Store it dry and clean when not in use, and avoid placing it close to heat sources, as this can damage the fibers in the yarn.
Hat and neck warmers in different designs
Classic and modern expressions
There are many options when it comes to design. Some prefer the very simple and plain color, while others go for a more colorful and patterned look. Whatever your style, you can find a recipe that suits your wishes and your child’s needs.
For example, you can knit a hat and neck warmer with rib or pearl stitch for a little extra structure, or you can choose a smooth model and decorate with colourful details. There are also patterns where the hat and neck warmer match completely in style and yarn choice.
Adapt to your child’s age
The youngest children often need extra warmth and coverage, and here a tight neck warmer that goes slightly down over the shoulders can be a good solution. Older children may benefit more from a lighter set that allows for more freedom of movement. Feel free to choose a recipe where you can easily adjust the size.
