Knitted baby sleepsuit, pattern
$7.69
“Sleep well” – or sleepsuit if you will – is knitted from the hood down. It is knitted in “double seed stitch”, has a contrasting cord edge and raglan increases at the sleeves. The mittens on the hands and feet are also embroidered with stitches – but this can be omitted. The hands and feet are “enclosed” so that baby doesn’t freeze – but conversely, the hands and feet can also be released via the opening. The work is knitted back and forth – both in body and sleeves. It is inspired by my own children’s sleepsuits (many many years ago :o) ) – I got a really cute baby sleepsuit for the oldest son, which I have tried to recreate here.

Getting started
A baby sleepsuit is an indispensable part of any new parent’s wardrobe for their little one. It keeps baby warm and comfortable while allowing freedom of movement. In this article, we will share instructions on how to make your own baby sleepsuit. We will also discuss the different materials and techniques that can be used to ensure your baby gets the best comfort.
Materials and Tools
Before you start on your baby sleepsuit, it’s important to have the right materials and tools ready. Here’s a list of what you need:
– Soft yarn
– Knitting needles – mainly circular needles
– Needle for sewing and embroidering the mittens
– Scissors
– Measuring tape
– Buttons or zipper and the knitting pattern
Yarn selection
When choosing the yarn for the baby sleepsuit, make sure you follow the gauge and that you choose the right yarn. If you choose a different yarn than the pattern prescribes, make sure to make a swatch. If the gauge doesn’t match, you can choose thicker or thinner needles. At the same time, make sure you have enough yarn – and if you’re knitting with a different yarn than recommended, recalculate the running length from the recommended yarn to the new yarn to make sure you have enough yarn.
Decorations
The baby sleepsuit has stitch embroidery on the feet and on the hands – on the mittens. You can, of course, leave it out – but I think it adds a cute touch to the suit.
You can also choose to knit the icord edge in the same color as the suit, but if you choose a contrasting color instead, it also helps to spice up the suit.
The suit has a lot of buttons – it’s up to you if you like a lot of buttons. I think it’s a cute detail, but in the pattern there are also instructions on how to do it if you want fewer buttonholes in the suit.
You can choose to do embroidery other than hearts – you can be inspired by small embroideries you find online – there are many cute diagrams to choose from if you Google it. However, make sure you count up the stitches so you’re sure your embroidery can fit on the work.
Maintenance of the Sleep Suit
To ensure your baby sleepsuit lasts a long time, it’s important to follow some simple maintenance tips:
– Wash:** Wash the baby sleepsuit in cold water to prevent shrinkage and preserve the colors.
– Drying:** Air dry the baby sleepsuit to avoid damage from the dryer.
– Storage:** Store the baby sleepsuit in a dry and cool place to prevent mold and mildew.
Always wash according to the instructions on the yarn label
Additional Tips and Tricks
To make your baby sleepsuit even more special, consider the following tips and tricks:
You could knit the icord edge striped.
You could leave out the hood if you find it annoying – then start at the neck where the pattern says there are 4 stockinette rounds – and instead of stockinette rounds, start by working in rib – knit 1, purl 1.
Conclusion
Making a baby sleepsuit can be a fun and rewarding experience. Not only do you get a unique and personalized baby sleepsuit for your baby, but you also get to express your creativity. With the right materials, tools and a little patience, you can create a baby sleepsuit that will keep your baby warm and comfortable for many nights to come.
